Tolerating Vista
May 31st, 2008 bogeyI read a recently most people don’t like Vista but that some actually think it’s ok. I’m probably one of the latter.
Vista isn’t so bad but it has it’s issues. I think the reason I don’t mind it so much is that I know how to disable unwanted crap that bogs the os down. Windows search is a joke, disable it. UAC is a pain and makes the os unbearable, disable that too. Turn off the security center nags, they are just that. Get a decent defrag program and anti-virus (I use NOD32) and Vista runs pretty good.
I certainly wouldn’t go back to XP. Not there is anything wrong with XP, it’s just been around since 2002. Being the software junkie that I am that’s just a little too ‘old school’ for me. Oh, and the sidebar is a resource hog but if you like the eye candy make sure your system has lots of RAM.
None the less, I poke around the Mac Store often seeing if the prices have dropped any, they haven’t.I It’s hard to look at a $2500 MacBook Pro when the same hardware from HP or Dell would cost much less. I have a Mac G4 (Tiger) I use for website testing and really like it but that’s another story altogether.
Vista isn’t nearly as bad as people say it is, you just have to know how to tweak it. Have a Vista question? Ask me, maybe I can help.
